Boy George

Boy George Bio

For the past 25 years Boy George has been at the forefront of an ever-changing multi-faceted entertainment business.

Boy George is universally recognised as one of the music scenes biggest artists and for the past 30 years has maintained a strong position at the forefront of this ever-changing, multi-faceted industry. Attracting high praise from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Magazine and MTV as having gained truly global recognition, the Grammy-nominated singer has created a worldwide presence that transcends age, race, nationality and even religion.

From the millions of records he sold as performer and songwriter with 80’s super group Culture Club to maintaining his position as one of the worlds most successful and in-demand international DJs, George proves he has it. George’s list of achievements is unparalleled in dance circles, having to-date been a national newspaper columnist for the Daily Express, author of two bestselling autobiographies, been the co-producer, songwriter and on-stage star of the award-winning musical Taboo on both New York’s Broadway and London’s West End.

He is the creator of his own B-Rude fashion label with outlets in New York, Los Angeles and London, as well as still maintaining an elite membership to the worlds designer fashion hierarchy – DJ-ing regularly at post catwalk shows such as Versace, Phillip Treacy and more recently Hugo Boss.

A professional DJ since the late 70’s, Boy George has had a long and successful career associated with house music stemming from early acid house and Chicago grooves in the 80’s, through to electro and tech house in the 90’s and 00’s. Maintaining a constant tour schedule, he’s notched up hundreds of thousands of air miles and taken in destinations from the snow capped mountains of Vancouver to the golden sun-kissed sands of Bondi beach.

Ever the skilled superstar, his travels have seen him pack out events in over 70 countries around the world, from super-brands in Godskitchen, Cream, Manumission and Spundae to global powerhouse venues like Ministry of Sound (London), Zouk (Singapore) and Guvernment (Toronto). Additionally his name has been a prominent figure at many of the world’s leading festivals including Homelands, Big Gay Out and V Festival.

A standout producer in his own right with tracks such as Generations of Love and When Will You Learn, his productions over the years have been released under imprints such as Ministry of Sound, Sony, Hed Kandi, Universal and featured on compilations as varied as Global Underground, Bedrock and Chill Out Ibiza. His impressive list of collaborations stands equally tall with George having worked with dance heavyweights such as Erick Morillo, Jeremy Healy, Deep Dish, Rui Da Silva, Afrika Bambaataa and Faithless.

Alongside Radio 1 veteran Pete Tong, he helped launch Ministry of Sound’s flagship compilation album The Annual. The album went on to sell over 200,000 copies and was the catalyst to the now-global label. Other compilations to his name include Galaxy Weekender, Dance Nation as well as another two The Annual albums followed, this time with another longstanding Radio 1 jock – Judge Jules.

With a long list of guest slots on radio stations such as Radio 1, Kiss FM, Sirius and Galaxy; where he hosted his own radio show for two years, George has also featured heavily on TV shows around the world with appearances on programmes like BBC 1 Jonathan Ross, MTV Cribs, Brit Awards, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, CNN and VH1.

Although in recent years (in the UK at least), the media spotlight has fallen too much on George’s iconic media status and not enough on an ever-expanding and prolific musical output, his presence in the music industry still remains a series of headline-making stories with notable publications such as Rolling Stones, Q Magazine, The Guardian and New York Times all following his career with great zeal.
