Tim Westwood Bio

Westwood is the most recognized urban DJ of the decade.

He is regarded as the most influential figure in hip-hop in Europe and as a pioneer of the UK scene. Westwood’s career is mainly composed of multiple residencies and DJ-ing at different radio stations. He co-founded the legendary KISS FM and began his career spinning tracks there and at Capital FM in the late 80s.

With his own company Justice Entertainment, which he inaugurated with the BBC Open Space documentary Bad Meaning Good, he has produced several radio shows including his own Radio 1 show and Chris Goldfinger’s dancehall show.

Currently Westwood broadcasts on BBC Radio One on Saturdays 9pm-1am and Tuesdays 9pm, and BBC Radio 1Xtra on Sundays 10pm – 12midnight to over two million listeners.

As the host of Pimp My Ride UK the show has become the most successful MTV UK production of all time and the second highest rated show in the history of MTV Europe, and is shown in every country in the world.

He has sold over two million albums to date with the biggest selling urban compilation in history.

The awards he has achieved include Mobo for Best DJ (2000, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2008), Sony Radio Awards, Best Music Broadcaster (1996 and 2000, nominated 2001, 2003 and 2006), Best Specialist Music Programme (1990, 1991 and 1999), Best Specialist (nominated 2005) and last but not least Best Music Programme (nominated 2001).
