Cory Gunz

Cory Gunz Bio

“You heard the voice. You saw the face. You made the choice.” – Cory Gunz

By traditional standards Cory Gunz is a new-comer, however his familiar greetings and track records affirm that he is anything but. Cory signed his first record deal before he was old enough to drive, without a novelty rap or dance craze.

The son of anthem co-author Peter Gunz (1997’s Platinum-selling Déjà vu [Uptown Baby]), Cory has been around music for his entire life and took to rhyming as though it were actually in his blood. From the outside looking in, it seemed as though Cory’s life in rap would be a charmed one. He inked his first deal with Tommy Mottola’s Casablanca Records when he was sixteen years old, and later was released from that agreement to sign with iconic Def Jam Recordings (after being recruited by newly appointed president Jay-Z). However, after being denied a release date at Def Jam, Cory signed with independent label After Platinum.

These false starts would be enough to make any rapper – regardless of age – hand in their microphone; luckily Cory prides himself on being a different breed. Despite lack of label support for his music, Cory kept his name relevant with a continuous stream of songs, freestyles, mix tapes and DVD appearances.

It was this work ethic that landed Cory a spot on XXL Magazine’s 2009 Freshman cover (the only artist on the cover without a major label backing or release date). Cory’s dedication to his craft and undeniable skill were not lost on entertainment heavyweights Nick Cannon and Lil’ Wayne who support Cory’s career on the management and label sides, respectively. With such support it was no surprise when Gunz released his debut album Heir To The Throne, an impressive 26-track compilation of his inexplicable talent, on the imprint Gangsta Grillz.

With a star turn on 6”7”, Lil’ Wayne’s first single since being released from prison (a feature that would land Cory the Hip Hop Quotable in The Source Magazine), and a team whose sights are set on Cory’s success, the time is now for Cory’s face to be seen, his voice to be heard and for the public to choose the person who’ll be entertaining them for years to come.
